Typhoon days in Taichung are a funny thing. Work is cancelled, shops closed, and the local bikesharing UBikes locked in their stations to prevent them from being blown away in high winds. Yet for the majority of the typhoon days, the weather event itself passes harmlessly as it’s either swept out to sea or blocked by Taiwan’s central mountainous spine.
One of these typhoon days was called a few weeks ago, and so, with my yellow-and-white mode of transportation cut off, I decided to boot up Ableton and see what I could create in a day. Fast forward a few weeks, and the finished product just completed its YouTube upload.
This style of mix, both sonically and visually, is heavily inspired by DnB Allstars 2024 Summer Mix. It was surprisingly fun to put this mix together, though my catalogue of drum and bass is sorely too small considering the break-neck pace of similar selections - in an hour-long Allstars set, Alcemist played 52 songs (my Discover Weekly can’t keep up).
I was on a roll after making the first mix and created another in short order. This one’s a little punchier and more “jump-up-y” than the first, but still (hopefully) has a reasonable flow.
